Some GALA choruses are open to any community member without any audition process. Others have some kind of audition requirement. The decision to audition or not is one that both the board and artistic director need to make based on the mission and focus of the chorus.

Many in GALA choruses see the times shifting around them. My own chorus now has a few cisgender women singing first tenor, post-transition transmen in three different sections, 6-8 straight cisgender men at any given time. At various times, we have had transwomen members, singing in various sections.

Festival Street Banners are a long-standing GALA Choruses Festival tradition and we invite your chorus to let everyone know that you’re part of the festivities.

Bayard Rustin: The Man Behind the Dream, conducted by Steve Milloy (he/him), will perform three movements in the Legacy Blockbuster (Black Boy Born, Stick in the Wheel, We Shall Not Be Moved). Open to individual singers from choirs that have performed Bayard Rustin previously, including alumni. This chorus performs in the Legacy Blockbuster on July 11 from 9:00 to 10:15 PM on the MCC Auditorium Stage.
