GALA invites choruses to take over our social media channels! This is an excellent way to share the amazing work your chorus does with the larger LGBTQIA+ Choral Movement. Please reach out to communications@galachoruses.org to learn more!

GALA Choruses welcomes our member choruses to take over our social media channels for a designated period of time. We find somewhere to between a day and a weekend is most effective. The goal is to share the amazing work your chorus does with the larger LGBTQIA+ Choral Movement, using whichever of GALA’s social media channels are best for your chorus. Typically, this includes our Instagram and Facebook accounts.
How it works
What first? – Email communications@galachoruses.org to express interest in your chorus doing a social media takeover with GALA. We’ll need to know the chorus name and your role within the chorus. Of course, social media takeovers will need to be approved and/or managed by chorus leadership (Artistic Directors, Executive Directors, Board, etc.) Over email we will determine the following:
- Takeover Date—Ideally this date will contain a rehearsal choir-related event like a concert.
- Primary Contact—We will designate a person—either a chorus member or staff—who will actually do the posting to social media. This person should have some familiarity with social media posting and access to a device that can post to social media accounts (usually a smart phone) with all social media apps already downloaded.
- Pre-Takeover Meeting—With all this in place, we’ll set a meeting between GALA staff and the Primary Contact over zoom. Ideally, this would be a day or two before the takeover itself. At this meeting GALA Staff will setup the Primary Contact with access to GALA’s social media accounts and answer any questions about the takeover. It’s vital that the Primary Contact bring whichever device they’ll be using for the takeover to this meeting.
What Content? – We’ve found that a “look behind the curtain” at how your chorus rehearses / celebrates / tells stories are great. Brief video conversations with members and/or leadership are great. Also, clips from rehearsal work great. In general a mix of video and photo content is ideal through posts and our stories.
What NOT to share? – Anything that falls outside of GALA’s (and your chorus’s) mission and vision for a world where all voices are free. We hope to celebrate and lift-up people of all genders, races, ethnicities, sexualities, and so on. Also, we ask that you not share full performances of any music to which you do not have the rights.
