With Legato in London: Part 1

What an exciting time it is for us in the LGBT choral movement. As I sit here in Seattle, I just found out that Minnesota is about to become the 12th state to approve marriage equality, joining us in Washington and 11 other states, plus the District of Columbia. Uruguay and France have recently approved gay marriage, and we’re making significant process all across the globe.

Our collective voices continue to raise across the country and world in a way that promotes acceptance and understanding, and helps us break down barriers. We are a unique group of people, because while we know there is a need for political lobbying and advocacy, we choruses carry our message through a vehicle that brings everyone together and finds common ground: music. I’m proud of what each of our choruses does in all parts of the world, and we have a wonderful opportunity and critical need to keep that music flowing.

Speaking of the world, the board for GALA Choruses is about to hold a meeting in London! One of our board members, Martin Brophy, is a member of the London Gay Men’s Chorus, and they are looking forward to hosting our group. Plus we’ll have the fantastic opportunity to meet with the members of Legato (http://www.legato-choirs.com/), the umbrella organization for lesbian and gay choirs in Europe. This is exciting because it will help our organizations to better connect and hopefully partner in the years to come.

We’ll be sure to post a follow-up to our trip to London after we get back, and we’ll let you know some of the details to come from that experience.

Thanks for keeping in touch with all of us in GALA Choruses. Come back often. We’ll have lots of exciting news and stories to share in the near future.

As always, keep your voices raised for equality!
