Description of Position Duties:

Now In its eleventh season, the Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida (GMCSF), is searching for a new Artistic Director (AD) who will ensure that the Chorus reaches its full potential and fulfills its mission and vision. The mission of the Chorus is “To sing so that LGBTQ+ people can live their truth through quality music experiences that inspire audiences, open minds, change hearts, and affirm our common humanity.” The vision is “A diverse world united.”

Fort Lauderdale, Florida anchors a vibrant and growing LGBTQ+ community where in eleven short years the Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida has grown to over one hundred thirty men, making it the largest gay men’s chorus in the southeastern United States. With mainstage performances in December, March, and June, as well as numerous outreach performances, GMCSF has earned a strong reputation for artistic excellence and meaningful community engagement. A new Artistic Director should possess a passion for GMCSF’s mission and embody a true pioneering spirit in shaping an artistic vision which will define the organization’s future.

The role of the Artistic Director, who reports to the Chairman of the Board, is to work collaboratively with GMCSF leadership to oversee all artistic matters and programming for the Chorus. The AD should have the ability to embrace a range of perspectives, allowing him/her to work productively with the Artistic Planning Team, which has the authority to review and advise the AD with regard to programming. With a firm commitment to music as an agent for social change, the programming of the Chorus will strongly support the organization’s mission and vision. The Artistic Director shall also be expected to significantly contribute to the Chorus’s growth by participating in fundraising and community outreach efforts.

Description of Position Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a BA or advanced degree in music with an emphasis in choral conducting or equivalent conducting experience (five years minimum).
Expertise in vocal technique, languages and choral diction with singers of various musical skills and experience is necessary. An ability to offer strong leadership skills and to balance work within a team setting is required.
