Street Requiem - South Coast Chorale

A contemporary twist on the traditional Requiem composed by Kathleen McGuire, Andy Payne and Jonathan Welch. With a modern setting of the Latin text, enhanced with English, African and Persian lyrics, a musical sense of peace, hope and remembrance is shared for communities and individuals affected by homelessness and violence on the streets. Originally commissioned by the School of Hard Knocks in Australia, the piece had its world premiere in 2014, followed by a U.S. premiere in 2016 at Carnegie Hall. The statistics around homelessness are shocking, but even more astounding is the lack of support for those who are homeless and identify as LGBTQ. Street Requiem speaks in ways that only music can.
