GALA Choruses’ staff includes an Artistic Director-in-Residence to offer member choruses artistic mentorship and to provide artistic vision and direction to GALA Choruses events, projects and programs. The position has been designed as a rotating appointment with a one-year term. The initial term begins January 1, 2008. Dr. Timothy Seelig, director emeritus of the Turtle Creek Chorale has been appointed to the Artistic Director-in-Residence position for 2008.
Member choruses can utilize the services of the Artistic Director-in-Residence to provide phone consultations on any artistic issue, to provide on-site workshops on artistic topics to be determined by agreement between the ADR and the member chorus, etc. Phone consultations can include assistance with programming, music resources, and composer/arranger resources. The ADR is available to review and comment on proposed concert programs. Another service available from the ADR is "The Sounding Board" where the ADR reviews recordings provided by the chorus which could vary from an evaluation of a proposed Festival set to a more strategic review of progress in developing the sound of your chorus by submitting recordings from the past several years. On site workshops can include work with the choruses, the conductors as well as artistic strategic planning.
The position is part-time so requests will be addressed on a first come, first served basis. Click here for an application form. The services of the ADR are free to member choruses; any travel costs required will be the responsibility of the member chorus.
