Resonance Women's Chorus of Boulder
Resonance Women's Chorus of Boulder is a 125-voice chorus singing contemporary women's choral music with an emphasis on songs of social awareness. Resonance aspires to build and to nourish a community of women who share an artistic vision, an experience of human connection, and a desire to express both through song. Their music and community are energized by their joy in singing together and by their commitment to the shared project and to each other.
Artistry and Outreach:
Resonance's 2014 spring concert, "Speechless" presented 125 women singing beyond words, in sonic exploration of realms perhaps not reached by language.
Many of the selections on the program had no text, or were settings in which the sounds transcend the text in unusual ways. A new piece by Boulder composer Gary Grundei, titled "celestial bodies resemble atoms from below, as above (Matthew's Song)" was commissioned by one of the Resonance singers in honor of her son, who ended his life three years ago at the age of 22. Birdsong of the Rocky Mountain region was the basis of a collective improvisation.
