Saturday Morning Breakout Sessions

9:00 - 11:30 am

Reading Sessions

Build your choral program on a foundation of quality literature! This year the reading session will be in two parts. Jerry Rubino from Hal Leonard will provide a packet of music to all those in attendance and will include exceptional selections from Hal Leonard Corporation, G. Schirmer, Boosey & Hawkes, Walton Music and more. Then the group will break out into chorus types to read through additional selections.

Common Sense Survival Skills for Chorus' Working with Communities
Bill Cleveland, presenter

This common sense, nuts and bolts workshop provides practical program design and implementation strategies that can be used by your chorus in developing residencies or collaborations with community, social and educational institutions. The material presented in this workshop was developed from research conducted on over 50 successful and not so successful community and institutional arts programs. Participants learn effective artistic, organizational, and political strategies used by model programs. Topics include:

  1. Assessing your chorus's suitability for community-based work.
  2. Evaluating prospective community partners.
  3. How your chorus can make friends with unlikely allies.
  4. Designing programs that can't be undone.
  5. Survival skills for choruses working in community and educational sites.

  2. See the 990 as an opportunity to describe your organization to potential funders and donors.
